This design is a combination of shawls I saw on the Shetland Museum and Archives website and the cover of the Unst Heritage Center booklet of 2014.
I did some minor alterations, made a new edge pattern and made sure the pattern came out as a balanced piece.

There was quite a lot of discovery, how to unravel a pattern like the tree. It looked so easy but it took me several attempts in both writing and swatching before I got it right.

Both borders are, compared to my other designs, extremely long. A bit more than 220 rows each. So, that leaves a bit less for the centre. Initially I had planned for 9 repeats, but 7 was already enough.

Due to the construction of the shawl, it is easy to omit a repeat or 2 from the center. The edge is worked continously, and for the end size, it doesn't need adapting.

But, it does a bit in the width, so I gave the design 3 options. A shawl, a scarf and in between.
The testknitters have worked very hard to make this all possible.

Many, many thanks to Irina, Gertha, MoniqueD, Sandy, Debbie and Susan. Thank you.
