A beautiful, rather large triangular shawl with Shetland Lace patterns. It might be daunting when you first see it / purchase the pattern. There are MANY charts.
But… It’s all to make sure the patterns match.
The nickname for this shawl, among the testknitters, was the Alphabet shawl. The charts go, for the centre, from A to S.
They are compact, 3 per page if possible.
Other charts are for the edge (1) and the border.
I’ve made smart charts: for the experienced knitter charts are shorter and compact. That results in a few more.
The other charts for the border are larger in size, to give an overview.
The past few years, I’ve been adding special boxes to cross off rows, that you’ve knitted. They are in this pattern throughout.
There is also a scheme to help you keep track of the charts and their placement.
And… finally, a swatch so you can practise a little bit before you dive in.
There are tips on how to handle the shawl during knitting, storing it and how to block it.
Four testknitters have been working very hard to make this happen: info on yarns and needles. And bonus: a view of the shawl in a different colour!
For the Cash Silk by Heirloom Knitting: 3,4 balls
For all ColourMart, usually 1 cone of fine yarn is sufficient.
For a 1 skein wonder, you’re good with the Ultra Merino by GBW.
In Heirloom Knitting cashmere / silk, the shawl blocks out at 160cm or 63” for each knitted edge in length (320cm or 126” total).
The top of the centre to the bottom edge is almost 150cm or 59”.
I must stress that this shawl can be blocked wider. I used my wooden frame to block it. Because the centre is so wide and stretchy, it can be blocked into an angle wider than 90 degrees.
